Before beginning a project, it is important to ensure that everyone involved is on the same page when it comes to the parameters of the project. Without a clear project plan, it is more likely that the results will be unsatisfactory, especially when collaboration is involved. Considering all aspects of the project, such as the client’s audience, competitors, content, etc., is just as important as the final execution of the project.
When building a new website, there are 5 steps that should be completed during the planning process. Completing this checklist begins with the client; it is best to ensure that you as a designer are involving them throughout the entire process, this will produce a more successful final website. Next is the user; a successful website will have a target audience in mind, catering to their specific demographic or interests. Budget is an integral part of the design process, as this will determine what will be possible to create. Next, you must consider what technology will be used to create the new website, keeping accessibility in mind. Finally, you must consider how this website will hold up in the future; ensure that your plan involves more than simply getting the website online quickly.
With technology always expanding, our knowledge as designers must follow suit. When creating a new website, one must consider what kinds of content will be included and where this content will be hosted. These things should be considered in the beginning of the planning process in order to minimize costs.
