SUMMARY 1 - PLAN THE PERFECT SITE
GET ON THE SAME PAGE
One of the first steps when creating a website is getting on the same page with the client or whoever you're working with. You have to know exactly how you'll be moving foward, what's wanted, and what can be done realistically. Everyone involved in this preliminary process should be in complete agreement in regards to what's expected of the site when all is said and done. There should be a considerable amount of planning, but not over-planning. All in all, both you and your client just need to understand and agree on the purpose and aim of the website.
THE IMPORTANCE OF USERS
Though your client is of significant importance when creating the site, it's the users that will actually be using the site. It's a good idea to involve the users inn the planning process through means of focus groups, interviews, ect. That way you're able to gauge the wants and needs of the users, who at the end of the day will be the ones judging the site hands on. After understanding the users perspective, you can see how their wants align with that of your clients, and figure out a way to answer to both parties as equally as possible.
PLANNING FOR THE FUTURE
When planning to create a website you shouldn't just plan to make a website and be done with it. You should plan to create a website, but also plan to give that website the ability to grow and evolve in the future.
Changes can be made easily when creating the website, if a situation such as new techology in the future arises, however it's harder to make those changes once the website is done. Even if not tangible, when planning, you must plan for what's to come in the future and possible outcomes. The best way to sum it up, is plan the website in a way that doesn't just focus on the base creation, but how that site will be used and evolved in the future.
