Copper Summit is more than just a ski resort—it's the culmination of J. Blake Johnson's lifelong passion for both graphic design and skiing. Before venturing into the world of alpine adventure, Blake had a distinguished career as a graphic design professor at Saginaw Valley State University. His years of teaching were marked by creativity, innovation, and a deep understanding of visual communication.
However, there was always a part of Blake that yearned for the exhilaration of the mountains. He spent countless winters dreaming of pristine slopes, fresh powder, and the rush of carving through untouched snow. It was during one particularly snowy season that the idea for Copper Summit began to take shape in his mind.
In the winter of 2025, Blake took a bold step and embarked on a sabbatical from teaching to turn his dream into reality. With meticulous planning and unwavering determination, Copper Summit was brought to life. The resort's grand opening in 2025 marked the culmination of years of hard work, creativity, and passion.
Today, Blake revels in his role as the visionary behind Copper Summit, affectionately calling it his "magnum opus." Instead of being confined to a classroom, he now spends his days on the slopes, leading by example and inspiring visitors with his love for skiing and design. It's not uncommon to catch a glimpse of Blake tackling the most challenging runs, his enthusiasm and zest for life evident in every turn.
